IF
If freckles were lovely, and day was night,
And measles were nice and a lie warn't a lie, Life would be delight,- But things couldn't go right For in such a sad plight I wouldn't be I. If earth was heaven, and now was hence, And past was present, and false was true, There might be some sense But I'd be in suspense For on such a pretense You wouldn't be you. If fear was plucky, and globes were square, And dirt was cleanly and tears were glee Things would seem fair,- Yet they'd all despair, For if here was there We wouldn't be we. ee cummings |
' IF '
With apologies to e e cummings
If frogs were lovely and full of delight
and a creation was not a creation
And a cell did not divide?
Life would be nothing, is that not right?
For in such a sad plight,
I would not be I
If moonbeams could heal,
a hearts loneliness
And past was representing it's self to be true
I might make some sense
But nothing is that intense
and in such suspense
You would not be you
If near was lucky
and stars were square
and gardens grew gladly
with no help from the bee
Things would seem without a care
yet they would all become aware
that time is irrelevant
And we are we
