Images & Words Week 159 - Things Maritime Or All Ship-Shape & Bristol Fashion

Thanks Anders, this is a very good theme for the week.
Having made a tour of the Endeavour when she was moored down at the old port, I was not stuck for photos instead I had too many to choose from.
I am going with your

Theme

All Ship Shape

This Tall Ship Being a working museum is kept in perfect working condition as you can see from my photo below of the Bow or Fore section.
My tour of this ship was a real eye opener of just how confined ninety six sailors were in this beautiful sailing ship, under the command of Captain James Cook.

  1. Nice shot. If I have an entry this week, it'll have to be out of the box thinking. Don't think I have one photo with a boat

  10. Yes it is hard to believe that so many could man such a tiny ship! At first I thiught the photo was taken of a model - everything is so pristine! But then I saw the fire hose box!! I am sure they did not have that on the original - nor a model! Great words too Milli on the hull of a wooden ship!

  11. This is a replica Pat and it cost millions to make but you are right when you say that they don't make them like this any more.

  13. Hi Gary it is good to see you here.
Eye opener my golly gosh I was totally amazed at how these sailors got through even one voyage let alone many.
The ships are still beautiful from my point of view but the conditions on one would have been harsh and extreme at times although the captains quarters on this ship were certainly a bit more pleasant.

  14. Hi Keith,
I visited this ship twice in a week and on this visit they were fixing and cleaning after coming into port from quite a long voyage. In this so called Modern day and because this ship is sailed from port to port the fire hose is a necessity for our new generation of volunteer sailors.
This ship has been built as a replica and the attention to detail is amazing. As you can see the deck was being wet down as I photographed hence the water in the left foreground coming out the hose. I am sure that any of you who would have seen this ship would have been totally absorbed by the originals history. I was and to be honest the day I went on board and down below it was a very hot day. It was stifling hot below and any one who suffered from claustrophobia did not stay down below for very long. I persisted and found the captains quarters at the front end of the below deck tour to be absolutely worth the cramped and at time stifling conditions to get there.
