Creative Challenge ~ Appreciate and Adore. ~

The Creative Challenge for This week is Appreciate and Adore.

A Short Story Written by Milli ~

The Surprise.

It was another full and tiring week for Anita. Being a full time carer for her elderly parents Anita's' life revolved around doctors appointments, picking up medical scripts and taking care of her parents. Not that this was a task for Anita, she already had a brood of children and grand children of her own and she took the extra duties in her stride. Things had become more complicated as of late though, because an old school friend from high school and her youth, Roger had rekindled a friendship with Anita through the sad passing of his late wife Katherine.

Katherine and Anita were also school buddies and they had kept their correspondences open for these thirty plus years. When Katherine had succumbed to an apparently rampant and fierce cancer, it was Roger who contacted Anita with the bad news and now as almost twelve months had gone by with this 'twoing and frowing' between Anita and Roger, chance would now have it that Roger would come down to the city for his niece's engagement and he decided that he would ask Anita to accompany him to the party.

Things had been going well for them ever since and this particular week Roger was coming back down to take Anita out for a surprise dinner. She had to know about the dinner unfortunately because she needed to find an alternative carer for her parents Edna and Joseph, However the actual details of this dinner were in the capable hands of Roger and there were no clues given as to where they would be going.

Roger was a good man. Still ruggedly handsome and a very passionate man, who found solace in the bond that he had now formed with Anita.

Anita's life had been a difficult one in many ways but as she liked to say " the blessings out weighed the difficulties.".

She had been married for twenty years to Alan and when he had become more reliant on alcohol than he was on being a good husband and father Anita found enough strength to send him off to get help or move on.

He moved on and never kept in contact with his family although he did make a contact once and said that he was now straight and had made a new life for himself in another state after the divorce from Anita.

The doorbell rang and Anita answered. It was Roger looking very handsome in his white shirt and blue jeans and matching leather belt and boots. Being a tall man he still maintained himself very well and Anita was very impressed with this handsome and very genuine man at her door. " Come on in Roger" she said as she took his hand and kissed him quickly on the cheek, " I am almost ready, Come and say Hi to mum and dad as I grab my bag and check my lipstick".

In all these years Anita was still a beautiful woman in her own right and a stickler for her token red lipstick, Anita had such charm and grace that she gave out an air of homely beauty. As she graced the room again with her presence her perfume wafted out into the room giving off the most beautiful hints of floral and citrus, a smell that suited Anita's personality to a tee.. Roger had paid his regards to Edna and Joseph by this time and he also met Janice the relieving carer too.

Then it was time to leave and as he slid his arm around Anita's shoulder he bent down looked into her eyes and said " Tonight Anita I want to show you how much I appreciate and adore you".

Joseph who had very good hearing for his age retorted back to Roger, "Roger! look after our girlie, because you are not the only one who loves and adores our Anita, Edna and I Appreciate our girl more than she can ever know." Roger gave a quick nod in agreeance as Anita giggled and they walked hand in hand to the door.

There was no doubt about it, this night was going to be very, very special in so many delightful ways for two very deserving and long time friends who were about to become two adoring and very appreciative lovers, for all the right reasons.

  15. For some reason I think the ending might be alternatively written ..."for all the night reasons."

In fact, at first reading, that's how I read it!

  16. Now that would have been a very interesting ending. Why did I not think of it?
Actually as with your own take on this theme the interpretation is always left to the reader. We supply the structure and words however the writing then becomes quite personal to the reader and in your case here, I guess this is how you perceived the ending would be?
Very interesting comment and I thank you.
