Creative Challenge #24 ~ A Desperate Voice.

A Desperate Voice.

Where did we lose the compassion?

What was the moment?

When we switched off our humanity.

Were there tell tale signs of our ever present egos

Working over time.

Was there ever a time?

When a desperate voice

Went as unheard as it does right now

While the cry for help becomes overwhelming

We close our ears and hope that it

Will never be ours to bear

Wishful thinking

When we all sit in the same boat together.

Worship each other not the material goods

We have been taught to treasure

Women, Men The Old and The New

Wives, Children, Mothers, Sons and Daughters

Worship them not the things that

When all is said and done

Will never give you the love that you need to survive.

Welfare for our fellow man

When we all pull together and make a stand

We all win and desperate voices

Will be no more.

Altruistic I know but

WHY NOT?

  1. I like the way all the lines begin with the letter "W" (except for the next to last line). And I love the sentiment the poem expresses.

  2. ...and the meek shall inherit the earth"

Altruistic, why not? I agree! Why not? This was a wonderful piece to read. Too many people focus on the material things which in the end mean nothing...there is so much more joy in loving our fellow man...

  3. Why not Milli?
The time has passed, and we no longer play a part in our own future.
Today Biometric Passports. Tomorrow Genetic Modification leading to cloning.
Russia was never controlled as much as we.

  5. Oh so true, it's rare to see human kindness from others anymore. its a special gift to see it in action though

  6. Money is the root of all evil, so the saying goes. Man turns against man, brother against brother and so forth. For what? Wealth dies, we cannot take our possessions with us, thats for sure. One thing that never dies is other peoples opinions of us as we leave this existence.
I've said it many times before. Oddly, when times were hard and people had to band together; in many instances trhey were happier for it. So elderly folks say. I for one, believe them.
I liked this and it spoke loudly to me.

  7. The ' Sustainable Earth ' agreement declares that the world population be reduced from the current 6 billion to 500 million. How this IS being actioned is beyond belief - yet happening as we speak. One result of this engineered global economic meltdown ( so called ) is that a huge chunk of humanity in the poorer countries will simply starve to death. Thats just one aspect . . there are many more ( do some browsing on the net - BUT make sure you have some aspirin handy )

  9. I do so like the opening lines to this. It's a natural flow that leads onto your inner thoughts of humanity that all comes down to 'Where did we lose compassion?"

Society itself does not ebb and flow ... it ebbs and it seems there is no end to how far back we take ourselves. You bring to question so many things here, so many things we need to put to-right that we have all seen go further backwards as time marches on.

Materialistically speaking we can say so much has changed for the better; moralistically speaking it is quite the reverse and it's here the questions are raised. 'When we all sit in the same boat together' I like this a lot too! Forever we are told the world is uniting and yet it is pulled apart each and every day.

So much going on here within this piece and a great deal of reflection by you in bringing this piece to pass. You did this wonderfully and in a way it could be read over and over again. And yet having read this three times, what stands out from all that is read comes back to 'Where did we lose compassion?'

As Governments and as individuals within our own comfort-zones we can see the world only how *we* see it; what we see in the daily news is by far a stark contrast. Which will forever leave the question of compassion. But one day? ... who knows; this piece that goes full circle may stop in your way of thinking. "Why not?" indeed ... why not.

I like this very, very much :)

  10. (hugs) thank you for speaking for me...There are times when I stay quiet because I feel too Idealistic, like an odd man in a pratical world.. I love the last question, we stand together in that question.

  11. A thought provoking write, Milli. I enjoy pieces that cause the reader to pause, reread, and contemplate. Nice job.

  12. Thank You kitty...The Use of the W
is because it is just that it is a double U. There is power in U and when we Unite the 2 U's we form the powerful W as in We.
The Altruistic was meant to be two lines down from the last sentence however when I posted, it all joined together and became one poem. Multiply may have thought the word Altruistic needed to be included with the W's

  15. Thank You Sylvie, ideas are seeds and when we scatter them to the wind we can only have faith that they will spread and grow.

  16. Hi sweet black velvet I think the problem is as you said. " it's rare to see human kindness from others anymore" Because there is more unkindness shown throughout the media etc than there is Kindness. Kindness needs no more than the deed itself. Where as the opposite needs to be shown and fed to us all for its own sake.

  20. Well put Milli, but don't despair, there are symbols of compassion all around us, they just don't get reported as much as the "bad stuff" in the media. There are many, many "good" people in the world and always will be!
    Blessings!

  24. You have some interesting concepts Pla. Many gangsters or let me put it this way criminals are actually gifted with high intelligence however it is a pity though, that they do not find a way to channel the intelligence for all man kinds good instead of the opposite.
I understand that you in the light of day and probably at night too, actually think very deeply and maybe find the roguish demeanor you display actually gets your word out there and more notice is then taken of it..
Thanks Pla always for your interesting comments.

  25. I understand totally Rashmi and I know when we speak our innermost thoughts that we can appear too idealistic. I also know we live of this world and not apart from it. I believe standing together will eventually be a part of our thinking because when all boils down all we really have is each other.
    Hugs to you too..Milli.
Happy Diwali to You and Yours
What a wonderful festival it is.

  27. Frankie when it comes to understanding I think you display such a wonderful gift for getting into the heart of the written words and then giving them life back through your summery.
Absolutely every thing that you wrote was a part of my purpose in this blog.
    In particular this section below:
I am glad that you have mentioned this in your comment because it does ring so very true in todays world.

    Exactly.
When did we become so numb? Was it over exposure?
I am sure a whole discussion could take place here with just this one sentence.

Thank you again Frankie for being spot on.

  28. You have it right in all that you comment here Dean. What the older generation says they have lived through and understand. about so much better than our generations. Money is actually the new salt silk or spices and let us not forget gold. A means to an end. Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply here in this interesting Challenge.

  29. This was really good.

I've often asked myself where we lost our compassion. I sometimes think we did when we forgot how it was to be a child and still mystified with the newness of life.

  30. I think you have something there Bill. Thank you.

  31. This is awesome millimusings, and I believe the world is the way it is so it can reach that ability to hear the desperation again and return to being good. Are we created to evolve into being created again. Altruism the hard way?
