Poetry Wednesday Destiny of the Troll.

I have pulled a poem from the closet of blogging for charity a forum once used on Yahoo 360, whereby we were given a set of words to form into a story or a verse. The words I had to use in this exercise are above the verse and I do hope it gives you a visual delight as you read it through. Hugs from Milli.

Changeling..Fury..Paramount..Aphrodisiac..Tantalising.Shroud..Weave..

Engage...and Empower.

Destiny of the Troll

Dark and tormented was the day my life realised, next to a newly opened flower

It was my mother's epiphany and the devil's chance to empower.

Me a changeling exchanged, and left in fury at the garden gate

As he wove a spell and she drank an aphrodisiac, served with hate

Paramount was his need, to weave a shroud of deception

Knowing full well my infant fate, was planned from conception.

A tantalising thought when the devil plans a future for his seed

To take a human form, is a virtue for us elves and trolls, indeed.

Did he know how quickly and with such sincere delight?

I would engage the pastor and his wife, with my thoughtful insight.

You see, the Devil in all his need of power and control

Forgetting my need was to be a loving human, not a devilish old Troll.

  1. A troll, a Devil, a human, each with a Need
Is a sight to behold, indeed.
Each lost within its own self
Each with an age on the shelf
    Journey towards that Source
Where a troll, a devil nor human can hold their own course :).

Enjoyed your play of words, makes me want to play with words too :P

  3. Cute! I'm a member of a forum that does this too. I think it's fun to get all the different points of view to make a story. To me, it brings the group closer than any physical contact ever.

Thanks for sharing this with us!

  14. Piyush I am happy you enjoyed the poem. Starfish thank you for visiting. Suggar so pleased that you enjoyed.
Lori I am glad that you understood the ending. Sweetpotato whimsical it was and yes you are correct it was about good verses evil and how we do have choice even a troll does. Sandpearl the words were a big challenge and to deliver the story with out labouring it on for too long was also a challenge. I tried to keep to the theme of a folkloric tale or fable interwoven into the poem.
    Well thank you trollifiikdear.
    Thanks Kwika.

  15. Tyler the outcome is in short: that we have choice no matter what we start out as and no matter who decides what we are meant to be we can always change. Trolls or changelings are often thought to be babies swapped by the underworld and replaced by a changeling who then takes the shape and form of the human baby. They are usually placed in the home of the unsuspecting to cause disruption or havoc. Ie the devils work. In this verse the changeling took on the human behaviours of Love and choice and there fore became human not only in form but in emotion and thought as well. A kick in the pants and turnaround to the original reason for it's evil conception. I hope this has explained.

  16. I was a hard core sci-fi lover in my youth, but as I have aged, I have started to enjoy, some fantasy, in poetry and novels...I think that this was well-done....

  17. The need, the strong desire, is the magic wand that transforms us...Either from devilish Trolls to loving humans, or vice versa!..A great post, thank you, Milli!!! :)

  18. Huff Puff! Still making the rounds!!
Finally got here! All this hostessing on 2 blogs has me spun around!
When I first read this, my initial reaction was that you were an abandoned child left to the devices of some creep. "Poor Milli," I am thinking, "my poor dear sweet Milli has has such and awful early existence and look how well she turned out!!!"

You had me fooled--well you DID turn out well, but I took it very literally and was so sad!

You see, the Devil in all his need of power and control
Forgetting my need was to be a loving human, not a devilish old Troll

I like the final message: goodness wins! Let that be a lesson to you guys, listen to Milli! :)

(I think Shankarg up there may have thought the same thing!)
