Dear Lord
Every single evening
As I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little Prayer
Keeps running through my head:
God bless all my family
Wherever they may be,
Keep them warm and safe from harm
For they're so close to me.
And God, there is one more thing
I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking,
Please bless my computer too.
Now I know that it's unusual
To Bless a motherboard,
But listen just a second
While I explain it to you, Lord.
You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends;
Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my friends.
I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Takes me in to where they live.
By faith is how I know them Much the same as you We share in what life brings us And from that our friendships grew. Please take an extra minute From your duties up above, To bless those in my address book That's filled with so much love. Wherever else this prayer may reach To each and every friend, Bless each e-mail inbox And each person who hits "send". When you update your Heavenly list On your own Great CD-ROM, Bless everyone who says this prayer Sent up to GOD.com Amen.
My Intro.
I was born in Sydney and spent part of my formative years there.
I now call my home Adelaide, however, Sydney holds a special place near and dear in my heart.
Anyone who knows Sydney will understand its geographical nature. The Harbour, the bush, the rivers and lakes, the hustle and bustle and when I was there oh! such a long time ago as a child, the beaches and the baths and the ferries and the water!, water!, water!.
Everything I loved was there.
Boats bobbing, pelicans fishing, us gathering rock oysters and fish. Lots of fresh fish, and prawns on bread with vinegar. Some things stay with you forever and that's how the Dolphin story comes to be.
Growing up near boats and water must have had a big affect on me because when we came to Adelaide nothing could keep us children from the beaches. We would come home from school and look out of the window, just to see how the water in the gulf looked that day from the window of our little hills house. Was it blue and smooth, grey and shadowy or were they white caps from the waves.
When we were very lucky or too hot and bothered, going to the sea on a warm summer night was our treat. Once again we could feel the water on our bodies as we, my siblings and I dived into the refreshing coolness of the sea. If we were very fortunate, the gulf dolphins would put on a spectacular display for all to see towards the sunset.
Dolphins are such charmers and so very endearing, a bit like some people I know. They really are so interesting to watch and if you happen to be out on the water they are very inquisitive mammals and love to come near to have a look at whats happening around them. Usually that's when the fun begins.
My sister was on a canoe once and as she paddled just off the shoreline dolphins came near. Unexpectedly they proceeded to swim under the canoe and around it and then much to her amusement they launched themselves up and over her canoe coming back again and nudging it with their noses. She was delighted with her encounter and remembers it well to this day.
My story although similar is different. Many, many years had passed since the sojourns to the beach, although to be near the seaside was still very much a part of me. To live near the sea was great, but of course the lure of whats out there gets the better of you and so a boat was needed to venture out further and encounter the bigger creatures of the sea.
One day three of us made a decision to take the boat for a ten mile journey to another small bay. All went well and we passed many other vessels in the water on the way. One boat was pulled up at anchor near a point and you could see the fish literally jumping out of the water. A good catch guaranteed? I am sure!
Our boat had a good supply of fuel in the tanks and before we left to come back to the trailer waiting for us at the beach we had departed from 10 sea miles away, we filled up the jerry cans with extra fuel, as no one was in the mood to row a large boat like this all the way back to the trailer.
Since there was no worry about fuel the trip back was a meandering affair although it was now much later in the afternoon and the water was still and very grey to match the stillness of the afternoon and the deep grey of the sky.
As we turned the point, fish were jumping out of the water and of course when that happens you can't help but wonder what is cruising below in the deep water, under your boat and causing all that disturbance. Maybe it was a big shark, as we have plenty of them in our waters. With a bit of trepidation we came closer to the shoreline and moved a bit closer into the bay.
It was at this time I saw the dolphin. I as usual and being who I am got a bit excited and asked that we cruise closer toward it. Hey!!! the dolphin must have decided already" Ah! a boat I will go and play". So pretty soon there it was riding the waves in the front of the boat. I scrambled out onto the bow and lent as close over as I could without going head first into the water. From there it started "The Encounter" with the wild mammal of the sea.
Of course I don't speak dolphin language but I am sure this dolphin understood everything I was saying to it. I would speak and it would turn its head to the side and look me fair in the eye with that turned up smile dolphins permanently wear. I can tell you, we were very close and even as other dolphins came to the port side and starboard side of the boat and continued to swim with us along the way, this dolphin stayed there at the bow still connecting and talking to me with its eyes, in that amazing way that dolphins do.
Maybe it was not talking to me, as I did all of that, but communicating with its eyes and body and in a most unexpected way it was hitting me in the face with the spray from its blow hole. Perfectly hitting me in the forehead as it swam in sync with the boat.
I was enjoying every moment when all of a sudden it shot off to the left and at a distance in front of the boat it hurled itself out of the water like a dog doing tricks . Wow!!when I thought "Oh its off now" it darted back to the bow of the boat smiling away with a look of "how did you like that?" in its eyes. Of course I loved it. So another good wet down from the blow hole was my reward.
Very soon the other dolphins started to swim away from the boat and when the last remaining dolphin at the bow "My Friend" looked at me deeply with his head turned onto the side, I too knew he was off to follow his friends in the pod.
My encounter was now finished in the physical but my memories will never fade from the amazing experience of My Encounter with a Dolphin.
I found a verse and wish to share it as it does sum up the Wild Dolphin Experience
Pushing through green waters
Symbol of joy
You leap from the depths
Unfettered by sales targets
No trains or planes to catch To touch the sky
Scattering spray Like handfuls of jewels
Not caged by union rules
Your time is set by the flow
Of the sea's tides
And the moon's glow
You give us images of ecstasy
That we lock away
Behind the doors of memory
For quiet moments
when released from our possessions
We dream of a freedom like yours
Poem by Horace Dobbs
Wow, now that was a blog entry and then some! I really thought the prayer at the top was cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks for you comment dear and I just had to do the little prayer first LOL after all it suits us all down to a T..Right? LOL hugs from Milli.
ReplyDeletedarling sister, communication is a wonder, joint prayer is a marvel and more than that dreaming and thinking of love between two souls not even seen in life is made possible through this. how i felt when we had to quit yahoo 360 to miss my care and share, but here comes a transition through my sister to make sure that i am needed makes me joyful. yes as you rightly pointed it is time to learn not to teach. i shall learn and be with you as sincere as ever. i shall start reviving my blogging soon. but let me stabilize with my care to one and all as always. i have already sent my group mailing through yahoo where at i have said about my move to here. i have taken care to add each one of you under sister/brother relationship. strangely though there is no sister to sister and brother to brother relationship but only cousins for them. so to the same gender i shall be adding the cousin.

Great Job as usual from Miss Milli. You have a way of making it all seem alright.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! As an old sailor who used to watch dolphins race our little 400 ft Guided Missle Cruiser, I can only echo the truely amazing feeling that you have when you see that. We had great sonar and attracted whales also. My poem "Sea" involves dolpihns off the coast of Maui, if it didn't transfer I will have bring it over.
ReplyDeleteNature has spme wondrous ex[eriences for us!
