Today I read an article and the topic was:
Why are blogs dying?
It is noted that:
An estimated 200 million blogs have been started, and then abandoned. One group of analysts points to last October - when 100,000 blogs were being created each day - as the possible high point in blogging. The number of bloggers is expected by some to plateau this year at 100 million worldwide. Other analysts predict it will fall to 30 million.
"A lot of people have been in and out of (blogging), said Daryl Plummer of Gartner. Everyone thinks they have something to say until they are put on stage and asked to say it."
Why do we blog and do we care if we are read? What are our motivations behind each of our posts whether they are carefully researched information posts or trivial and inconsequential little trivialities of our life's existence?
Do we post to entertain ourselves or to share and entertain our friends and others who happen by our little side lines in cyber space?
The article goes on to state that the reason so many blogs fail is because they are simply crap. I am not sure what the writer means by crap because one persons idea of crap can be another's idea of entertaining.
You will notice that there are many people with friends galore on their pages and it is then you wonder are they there for the reading or for friendship or to join in on the
Merry go round of blogging?
In simple terms my thoughts are that blogging is a form of free expression and I mean relatively free.
It takes us back also to the times of pen friends when connecting with other from places far away and learning of cultures not fully understood.
It provides for many a social scene out side of their maybe mundane existence or it gives the social butterflies a chance to fully spread their wings and grace many pages in the name of curiosity and conversation.
Personally I find the insight into each and every persons post I am fortunate to read as an extension of their own reality and I embrace the chance to get to know them better and learn in the interim.
I understand that all bloggers must face moments of writers block however thats just a part of renewal and often brings a more fresh approach when one is ready to share again in cyber world.
For those who slip totally away then it probably would be fair to say that this medium has been a fad or maybe their own schedule has not allowed the time to pursue blogging and all it entails. I know that there are others who blog for personal reason so as to keep in contact with family and friends and if you belong to their group then you will understand how totally some people are willing to share their lives and loves on here.
I know I love to post my poems, photos, stories and maybe a whimsy or two and often throw in some humour or facts because for me blogging is not only a form of social outlet as it can also be a platform for my thoughts and feelings about injustices and peace and spiritual pursuits. My philosophies of life are also given a work out on here as are my social responsibilities. To me this is a very creative medium indeed and my knowledge increases daily by it being available.
In the article I read it was stated that Blogs succeed when they inform and entertain and Some of the best blogs are rolling conversations with people who have fresh, provocative perspectives on the world.
It is stated that:
Well-constructed and informative niche blogs will do well, too - as long as they are maintained by people determined to make the blog keep rolling with fresh, lively, and informative content.
So tell me what you think and what you think the future of blogging has in store not only for yourself but for all of us at large?
Does blogging have it place and how do you see your own blogging in the future?
Will only time tell?
Post script: It would seem blogging has a place in many an average persons life. The blogging phenomena is very much alive and thriving.
