"Music has given the human race so much pleasure through out time and will be our 'Song-lines' for the future generations to come.
Where by they too will understand us all by the melody of our times"

Radio Ga Ga
I'd sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
Radio
You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds -- invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh -- you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly
So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!
We watch the shows -- we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years
Let's hope you never leave old friend
Like all good things on you we depend
So stick around cos we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio -- Radio
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!
Loves you
The words to the Queen Song Radio Gaga above which was one of the songs presented by Freddy Mercury and Queen at the original Live Aid performance on the 13th July 1985.
"It's twelve noon in London, seven AM in Philadelphia, and around the world it's time for; Live Aid ...." Richard Skinner
Just think back to how Live Aid joined billions of people from around the world together in a good cause and remember for a moment some of those who gave spectacular performances to the masses not only in Wembley Stadium UK but also the live or simultaneous broadcast streaming from across the globe from JFK Stadium in The United States of America as well.
Phenomenal days that actually feel like yesterday in hindsight.
I heard a story by Phil Collins who did his performance at Wembley and then went by helicopter to the airport to board a Concorde flight to America solely for the purpose of appearing at that concert as well. A magnificent feat in itself and in a story he relayed that at the airport he met Cher who was on the same flight returning back home. They chatted and he spoke of his reason for going to America and she asked if she might be able to join Live Aid as well. He replied for her to do it and he says that later after his American performance he went early and did not stay for the finale because tiredness had definitely caught up with him. However he turned the Television on in his room and who would he see non other than Cher doing what Cher always did best..entertaining this time at Live Aid from Phil's suggestion.
We have a lot to thank the radio industry for and even though so much has changed over this past twenty five years that I can not even start to discuss here, Live Aid the brain child of altruistic Bob Geldof ( remember he started it with Midge Ure when they did Do They Know It's Christmas, Band Aid together) and then they went on to do the phenomenally successful Live Aid
I have used the performance by Freddy Mercury and Queen here, not that there was not anyone of more than a dozen I could have chosen but probably because as musicians and artists I hold them in high esteem for their showmanship and talent.
RIP Freddy you left an amazing legacy for your fans around the world with your flamboyant style and your amazing voice and fabulous music.
Music touches us all in so many ways and this mammoth event Twenty Five years ago gave so much to so many in the way of amazing acts all brought together for a spectacular and historic event and for those in Africa and "it is estimated that around £150m has been raised for famine relief as a direct result of the concerts."
This was my Tribute to the Power of Music for the People by the People.

ReplyDeleteThe Summer Of 1926. Station 2LO.
ReplyDeleteCharles built a wireless set made from bits and pieces that included wire wound cardboard bobbins, and the heart of the instrument was a piece of thin wire we knew as a 'Cats Whisker'.
When twisted over the surface of a crystal containing the correct frequency, the wire tuned the broadcaster's signal to the set's amplification circuit. As a prerequisite to the correct functioning of the whole a good earth was essential, so I became Charles' chief engineering assistant.
With Charles twiddling the cats whisker while wearing his headphones, I would be urged into action outside the adjacent living room window. 'Now Bill, now.' he would cry.
On that command I was supposed to pour as much water as I could into a modified school ink well located above a copper earthing rod. This performance was known as 'Wetting the Earth' and I was good at it. Pouring water down a hole and over my boots combined both my favourite interests, the second of course was playing with water. Patience and hard work would bring it's reward, and after Charles succeeded tuning in station 2.L.O. I would be offered a 'listen'.
Yes Milli where we would be without it.
