My Challenge was to interpret this quote in an original way...

Pollution.
What small action will you take for Earth Day?
I will acquire some hens for the garden. Fresh eggs, recycled refuse and great fertiliser. I will also teach my Grand Children to enjoy Our Sacred Earth and the beauty it bestows on us all in a myriad of ways every day and to nurture and respect Our Mother Earth.
What will your actions be?

Milli, these are beautiful photos, and a very lovely post. The beaches there look so clean. I hope that it's that way all over the world. I was out walking in the woods nearby not so long ago, and enjoying the beauty and serenity when I came upon an unsightly trash heap. How it got that far out in the woods I have no idea, but there it was, a shock to the senses amidst the beauty of nature. It made me angry.I wondered who on Earth could have been so careless. I guess whoever put it there assumed it would never been seen, but there I was stumbling upon it.
ReplyDeleteThis was property belonging to someone else, and I wonder if they even know that residents nearby have used their woods as a landfill. This being private property and posted, could not keep me from the beckoning trees. I wonder how I could possibly approach the owners to make them see the atrocity that has been done there.
First of all, I have no idea who the property belongs, too...but I'd like to find out, simply so I can ask for permission to walk there. There is a lovely little pond there with otter, deer and water fowl. The ideal place for a stroll with my camera.
In order for the trash heap to be cleaned up a road would have to be cut through the woods so it could be hauled away. This is second growth forest and young trees which wouldn't be much of a problem to clear away. But I doubt if anyone would be willing to do it.
Thanks for the reminder of Earth day, Milli. I'll take a trash bag and wander down the road between the houses on either side of us and pick up trash. The teenagers around here must think this is lovers lane as there are beer cans strewn everywhere after a weekend. Just keeping our stretch of the road litter free can be quite a task sometimes.
I'll be planting seeds today for a little flower garden out near the road, for the enjoyment of the birds and bees, and hopefully my neighbors, too....although they aren't a friendly sort!
Yes Peter the OURS is All of mankind and the living creatures that share Our Earth...we are all on the same boat whether it be sink or swim...or floating freely.

ReplyDeleteHi Debby I enjoyed your account here and I realise how so many of us take for granted what we have. Here in Australia we have beautiful beaches and here in my state we do not tolerate litter. You can be fined for littering so there is very little to be found in public places. We also have recycling happening to a big extent and bottles and cans and the like have a 10 cent deposit per item collected when purchased and redeemed when taken to an authorised recycle depot. So that is an incentive for people to recycle theirs or anyone Elise's cans bottles, and cartons.
ReplyDeleteDebby as for the trash heap in the middle of that little piece of paradise. I guess all that can be done is to knock on the door introduce yourself and ask if you may stroll around and take some photos. Suggest to the owners if you find them agreeable that you find it difficult to believe that there is rubbish like that on their beautiful holding. They may not know that it is there. Maybe it can be wheel barrowed out if a group of people got together for an Earth Day clean up. Only a suggestion here as what you have planned for your action is thoughtful and a worthy exercise. Knock on some doors if you need some help, there might be some others who will help you too.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics and words, Milli. And it is so true that we are responsible for generations yet to come. That means protecting Mother Earth and making decisions that take into account our kids and grandkids, our future. Really, the future is a part of us, because we are all connected.. To leave them with no legacy and a dirty, selfish world is beyond cruel.
