Friday Night Fun!

Let Us Write a book using a book that is nearest to us at the PC. I will edit the sentences later.

I know that you have all done this before..well maybe not all of you. It is a fun exercise and very easy to do.

Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST book....

Now that you have done this...
Write in the comments section below exactly what you found written there.

I will start the ball rolling from here....Now!

"Fill each tin with the concrete and push a broom handle into the middle of each one and hold it straight until the concrete begins to set."

Your turn now and let us see how this new story book unfolds. LOL.

Thanks for the participation here because with out it there would be no story. So without further adieu let The Story be told!

Miss Deity was asked by the Adult literacy teacher to take his class for a semester while he made his annual pilgrimage to England to visit his long standing Friend and mentor Mr Bill A.T. Play the renowned author of an epic book about Life and Times in England.

To quote from this outstanding book “Life's Journey”

“As if to underline these powerful aspects of strength, Dover's Castle stood majestic As a seaside town for children Dover was a sand less wasteland, but it was destined to become a plethora of memories for me. A bedrock from which the past is mentally anchored.

Its white faced cliffs with short verdant green turf covering its chalk tops, were huge. A symbol perhaps of England's stand against Napoleon? I imagined.
As if to underline these powerful aspects of strength, Dover's Castle stood majestic. Its granite walls worn like a protective mantle against England's adversaries.
The town nestling under this comforting backdrop seemed equally impervious to assault, but not in an aggressive manner.

Its feeling of solidity came not from its ability to attack, but to stimulate senses that were sacred to the way of life we had in England at that time. Proud and loyal.
It is little wonder this imagined grandeur became Dover's benchmark from which I measured every sight and nuance of its ancient past.”

Miss Deity being the perfectionist and one who likes to chew the fat, so to speak, decided to ask all those attending her first class as the Adult literacy teacher to bring along their favourite book and recite a sentence from this book to her and the class. This was her means of an introductory lesson and also for a better understanding of whom exactly she would be teaching in this, her first experience at teaching adults.

You see Miss Deity had always taught grade school and was now about to encounter a bigger challenge from these more mature, new pupils of hers. So was it to be a walk in the park or are there some surprises in store for our Miss Deity?

A little conversation between Miss Deity and the English Literature Teacher was overheard by some of the grade students a few days before the big night was to occur.

am in between phone teaching class and naturally i have here with me phone business

convo books...ok. here's what i found.”  She replies “ Ok I have a pen and paper so tell me Johnoh what was the last lesson you taught them?”

Johnoh excitedly relays back to her “Case in point: the multitudinous rings and ringlets of the planet Saturn."
--Death by Black Hole And Other cosmic Quandaries by Neil deGrasse Tyson"

“ What!!! How will I find that!!! Johnoh!!! okay, this is not gonna work for me since I got the

white pages is the nearest book in front of me!”

“What else did you teach them?”  She tentatively asks, as she scribbles nervously.

"My favorite piece of music is the one we hear all the time if we are quiet" John Cage"
"Every Day Is A Blessing, edited by Aaron Zerah”

“There is no quiet around here. What are you babbling on about?”

“now me is back to teaching. lol.”

“Ok I have to get back to my class talk again soon will be back to see how this goes. lol.

Sounds fun" she says as she abruptly disconnects the call.

“Now class what has been happening here?”

"Miss Deity" says Loraine “'A courting male will fly in front of female, spreading wings and tail, then perch next to her.'”

“ For”

"Usually three days or more"

"Well that’s what this book says Miss Deity.”
“What is that book Loraine?”

“This is from my book 'Birds of Oregon Field Guide' which was on my computer desk." “ MMM!!! Ok Thank You Loraine, don't be surprised for unwanted visitors."

At this moment Billy BestoCaveman and his Friend Mr Bugg knock on the classroom door.

"Billy Besto and Mr. Bug were over there easy and it runs up to them”

She is taken aback by Billy’s quick ramble and replies  "Hello boys how've been!. ?"

With that Billy rants back at her “uggg did i mess up? "

Miss Deity is used to Billy and replies in a joking manner, “I am going to feed you to the seagulls kid"

Just then the lunch bell rings and as the children all scramble to their feet, Miss Deity

remembers her special quote for the day, “This hexagram forms a complement to Shih,

THEARMY (7). and This is (From the I Ching....,” Good job this was sitting next to me on the

table)  she thinks to herself. “ Ah Such bright children she then mumbles to herself”

“You are all Dismissed now.”

Loosing sleep was not uncommon for Miss Deity and as the evening came and her thoughts turned once again to the Adult literacy class, a thought came to her mind.

“The meek shall inherit the earth because their egos are humble, and this gives them truer perception"

This will become her motto and she will keep this quote in her mind.

Her mind was such a whirlpool of ideas and thoughts that even she had admitted that

” i sleep with books around me. lol. my tranquilizer."

The days went by in a whirl and the night for meeting her new students had arrived.

She made an effort to get to the classroom early and was surprised to see two of her students already sitting in the corridor reading their chosen books. She unlocked the door and then glanced back at them and introduced herself as she quickly peered over to read the book titles as well as making a mental note, as to who was reading what.

I am your new teacher Miss Deity” she said to the older and very distinguished man sitting next to, an attractive younger woman.

“How do you do Senorita I am Nico!! And let me introduce you to my friend Mannu?”

“Ah that explains your book Nico, Spanish is it?”

“aun así reconocía que Julián pasaba las noches tranquilo sin sufrir. this is from a Spanish

book and this is the translation”

“Thank You Nico I will be happy to hear your English version soon”

“Mannu you have a book with an interesting Title there?”

“ Yes I do Miss Deity, the book's called "say it with poison " by ann granger.. “And my Favourite line in the book goes like this”…"as if reading her mind, sara asked...i don't look much like mummy, do i?

“What an interesting line Mannu and I wonder where that leads the reader too?”

The two students settled into their seats as Miss Deity unpacked her tutorials and busied herself for the class. It seemed no time at all and the room was abuzz with students.

Miss Deity noticed how the students grouped themselves and spoke animatedly to each other. This was going to be an interesting evening. “Good Evening Class” She announced as she introduced herself and made notice to the class, of Doctor Johnoh’s absence from this class for the whole of this semester.

Then as a matter of introduction she asked the man at the very rear of the class room to stand and introduce himself and his book, to her and the class. Also asking him to take a random sentence and read it out aloud.

“Hi Everyone my name is Mark and I am a photographer from Romania”

“Don’t ask me about the book I did not bring it, however I memorised a sentence that I hold very dear to my heart and here it is”..

” Never mind that role model shit. If this country is dependent on things like role models, we're much worse off than I thought"

Miss Deity was amazed and off to a good start she thought to herself.

“Thank You Mark and nice to meet you too!”

Next was a blond lady with piercing blue eyes.

“Hi Y’all my name is Rita and I write books, so I have brought my own copy of Kelly’s Book of

Love here with me tonight and I am more than happy to sign a copy after class.”

“Oh and now I will tempt you all with a sentence from my book.”

Rita speaks in her own special accent half Boston and with the other half Texan thrown in for good measure.

“towels every two days and only if you pick them up yourself................... "

She says and then throws us all another sentence from one of her favourite authors.

“.........from her own mouth (it's a Blondie word), but needs must when the devil drives............"
Lisey's Story by Stephen King "
“Thank You Rita” Miss Deity says as she thinks to herself, so far, so good.

But wait who is next?

“Hi Ma’am my name is Rich and I love to write erotic poems.”

“I have none of my own material here tonight but I am happy to read some to you after this

class, if you would enjoy that?”

Miss Deity gives a quick glance towards Rich and as her mouth quivers and her face flushes,

she asks “ And what do you have for us here tonight Rich?” “Oh heck just a little bit from my other passion Books about battles….”

“Appleby retreated from Yossarian with a look of loathing bewilderment and sulked in silence until he was in the jeep with Havermeyer riding down the long, straight road to the briefing room, where Major Danby, the fidgeting group operations officer, was waiting to conduct the preliminary briefing with all the lead pilots, bombardiers and navigators."

“Thank You Rich for that amazing insight…Next!” she calls.

It was Nico with his translation from Spanish to English.

“Miss Deity Bella, I now give you translation of my book.”

“aun así reconocía que Julián pasaba las noches tranquilo sin sufrir. this is from a Spanish

book and this is the translation”
"at the same time he saw that Julian had spent the night with no suffering."

Ah such a romantic language she sighs silently to herself as she says “ Thank You Nico.”

Two ladies sat together and as one made a gesture for the other to stand it was Sharon who stood and introduced herself.

Lovely to meet you Miss Deity my name is Sharon and my book tonight is… Irwin Shaw's

 Acceptable Losses"

"The last time he had seen Mr. Gray had been on the occasion of the Damons' tenth wedding anniversary."

Then she said....

“I am so excited to meet you Miss Deity as you teach my little sister in grade school”

“Oh who is your little sister Sharon?” asks Miss Deity.

“At home we call her Lady but you would know her as Katya”

"Of course I know her a brilliant student for her age in fact I was totally blown away by her

knowledge of "Scholars are not sure whether the early Chinese had a formal religion in which

 participated".

” From the test book name WORLD OF CIVILIZATION third edition"

“She is one of my most prominent students Sharon and now I get to meet her sister how nice.”

The other lady very astute and yet also relaxed introduced herself as Mia.

Mia had the most amazing grasp on spiritual matters and it soon became apparent as she

spoke about her books.

“Miss Deity my book here is a favourite of mine.. one that I reckon.. the Urantia is the wordiest book ever written."

….."These Absolutes must be the not-fully-revealed presences abroad in the universe which, in the phenomena of space potency and in the function of other superultimates, render it imossible for phsicists, philosophers, or even religionists to predict with certainty as to just how the primordials of force, concept, or spirit will respond to demands made in a complex reality situation involving supreme adjustments and ulitmate values."

It was becoming apparent that Miss Deity had a class of exceptional students.

Quietly sitting and observing on her own was Anne.

As Anne stood up, she opened her book and in a very beautiful English accent she recited the sentence. What she said made Miss Deity and the others drop their mouths in disbelief.

"There's no mistaking that sound - the firm yet strangely soft and hollow sound of a vehicle hitting a body"

"My bit to add to the pot, from 'The Dance' Oriah Mountain Dreamer" She said."

“Thank You Anne it is wonderful to have you in my class.” Miss Deity replied.

Kata was the last to stand.

She said “okay, this is not gonna work for me since I gotta see what I got lying around, lady! "

"Thank you Kata next week then?" she asks.

It was at this time there was a hurried knock on the door and in came a very late and

harassed student who introduced herself as Milli.

Plopping herself down in the front of the class with a fat book in her hand.

She quickly introduces herself.

“I am so sorry that I am late” she explained “The children were a right handful today and

everything we tried in this darn book did not work.”

“The concrete would not set for the hurdles”. On hearing this Miss Deity replied.“ Concrete! I have found it to take… "Usually three days or more."

“Ah! Thanks for that Miss Deity” Milli says as everyone watches on in bemusement.

“What is your sentence and your book Milli?” Miss Deity asks. “..TV Free Activities For Kids

Volume 2.... " “And it did not work at all, They drove me crazy all day long wanting to watch TV and DVD’s.”

“Ok Milli and what is your sentence then?”

"Fill each tin with the concrete and push a broom handle into the middle of each one and hold it straight until the concrete begins to set."

I think Miss Deity might just have her hands full with this Class how about you?
