The best six doctors anywhere
And no one can deny it
Are sunshine, water, rest, and air
Exercise and diet.
These six will gladly you attend
If only you are willing
Your mind they'll ease
Your will they'll mend
And charge you not a shilling.

Knows, 1990~Nursery rhyme quoted by Wayne Fields, What the River

After three weeks of what I thought to be a very debilitating Flu, my results from all of my blood tests have all come through and my result is Glandular Fever.

Initially I believed I had flu and when I attended an out of hours clinic and the doctor also thought it was flu, I took to my bed too exhausted to even speak. With the passing of time and no pick up on my behalf, I went to the local hospital emergency department where I was admitted, given a drip and had blood samples taken. This was a Saturday afternoon. I was allowed home by night and was to return back on Monday for an abdominal scan.

I saw my local doctor this last Tuesday scan in hand and blood test results from the previous Saturday. Not being happy with the results there were more fasting blood tests done on Wednesday and this morning the result came through about the, now this is the funny part, Kissing Disease or Glandular Fever.

It seems instead of getting older I have reverted way back to adolescence again, this is usually a disease of the young however on a more serious note any age can succumb to it's vicious onslaught.

My sugar levels are all over the shop but then again my liver is sick as is my spleen so I need more blood tests in two weeks. When the doctor read out my results she said " The Good news is that your thyroid is fine, however none of the other tests are good LOL". I figured a good thyroid was a positive on my behalf.

Well there  you have me in a nutshell up until now. The dear little quote above is my prescription for the coming days ahead.

Thank you to all who have left kind thoughts on my page here, as you can imagine I have not had the strength or the will to blog, whilst my body has been waging this war on the virus.

An interesting thing happened in my delirious first week of sickness where by I was writing stories in my mind. Of course not one of them saw the light of day, however if I can later recall some of them, then I might have a couple of interesting books to write, further down the track.

All the best my friends and please forgive my absence for a short time longer. You know I will be back when I can once again let my creative juices have their uninterrupted way..

  11. Oh Milli, I'm so sorry you're so under the weather. I'll bet you burst out laughing at the description of "Kissing Disease"? I remember several of my friends getting it in high school or university. From what I remember of them at the time, was that it really laid them low for several months. I'm hoping it clears much sooner than that and you'll be back at your post here at Milli's Home Away From Home. ;-)

Please know I'll be keeping you in the thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery; and I'll be here awaiting your return. Take good care of you and I wish you all my very best!
    Love & Big Hugs,
    Marcia

  14. Sorry to hear you have been so ill. I had this when I was 18, really knocked me down for a while. Just sleep when you need to and it will eventually pass. The liver involvement may give you jaundice and weird rashes, but that passes too. Take care.
