Creative Challenge ~ 45 ~ Oh How I Miss It!

Tomatoes 2

Oh How I Miss It.

Eaten fresh from the vine

Red and fleshy, so divine

Sliced thinly on my bread

Add some onion, enough said

Lasagne! Delicious spaghetti bolognaise

I enjoyed them all and gave my praise

Fresh warm pies with dead horse too

A delicious combo, was nice also, with my stew

Chutney’s, pickles, preserves, All!

But! A Bloody Mary, was my downfall

Red blotches, itches a scratching mess

I found it difficult, I must confess

To leave tomatoes off my shopping list

Now I have no choice other than, to resist!

You see after all those years of stuffing them in

The only place I can stuff them now, is in the compost bin.

The humble Tomato, red juicy, divine

Oh how I miss it, wish it were mine!

  1. In Aussie slang it is sauce. A pie and dead horse would be a pie and sauce LOL.

  22. I couldn't imagine a life without tomatoes, although if you are allergic it is a problem - great poem. Tomatoes today (in Europe) are just not what they used to be. They have no natural flavour any more. As far as the horse is concerned, although I am not a great meat eater, I am not a vegetarian and don't mind horse meat at all.

  23. So Milli what has the tomato got in it to ruin you so?
Red is your favourite colour is it not?

    ReplyDelete
  24. We have out of season tomatoes here too Pat and they lack flavour big time. I can image you might have a problem there too.
I know that in some European countries horse is eaten. I am not too sure that I can eat it though. Glad you enjoyed it.

  26. Oh, what I would give for a fresh tomato from the vine?? My wife always plants our veggie seeds in the greenhouse for the garden. This year I wanted to plant them. Was told I had a yellow thumb. I was determined to show her I knew what I was doing. I planted tomato, peppers and after 3 weeks nothing. Did I get an ear full. She replanted. Hugs from sunny Tennessee.

  32. LOL This is cute! When I was little Daddy used to plant tomatoes in the garden every year. As a child I HATED them. He would go out to the garden and pick a bowl full of Cherry Tomatoes, come into the house, wash them off, and toss them with Mayo. I would be so disgusted I would run to my room to not see him eat them. Today I do the EXACT same thing LMBO. Just goes to show you can't run from what you know ;o).

    Thank you for writing this!

It's so obvious that you're an ARTIST!
I love the artsy presentation of those beautiful tomatoes.
They look so inviting, while resting in the natural wooden fish-like shaped bowl with the designer backdrop.
Just awesome! As for your writing... WOW!!! You literally PAINT the picture with your words. Sorry about the allergies!
    Eloquently penned!
