WE CREATE AND BEGIN :

My favourite Museum is now the Net because it has so many artists for me to discover at my own leisure and from my own home. So let me introduce you to a new friend of mine:
Her Bio reads thus:
I Color the “Life Feminine”
The beginning of a series of paintings on women by Karen Canton
In the hour of shifting shadows
When the moon has flown on by
And hands full of satin ribbons
Are tossed against the sky
I slip from my covers of darkness
Step into a pool of gold
And bathe myself with sunlight
Until once again I am whole.
Then I slip on a dress of society
Twist my hair till its neatly curled
Paint my lips with propriety
And go out to face the world.
Kären Canton
About the Artist
A life-long student of art whose work has sold in the United States and Europe, Kären Canton spent much of her life in Minnesota until her recent relocation to Southern California in 2002. She studied art at the University of Minnesota and at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. During one of her many trips to Europe, she worked under the eye of renowned painter Etienne Rey in Brittany on the West Coast of France.
Kären Canton’s use of color comes from her study of Van Gogh, Gauguin, Monet, Renoir, and Chagall. The warm and rich settings in France, Spain, and Italy enhanced her appreciation for color as a means of distinguishing her work and as a means of reflecting the vibrancy of the landscapes she encountered.
Her paintings invite viewers to pause and look at her subjects which are wonderful fantasies and reflections. Observers find joy in the colors before them and in the emotional sense of beauty and peace that enhance their lives thanks to the artist’s work.
There is a happy warmth and beauty in Kären Canton’s new Southern California surroundings, a celebration of simple yet moving images that have inspired her to a higher level of productivity than at any other time in her life.
A natural extension of her artistic sensibilities has been the founding and operation of her interior design business called VanGogh’s Daughter, Inc. Here, too, she combines composition, color and texture to create extraordinary results for her clients. Kären Canton is a graduate in interior design from the University of Minnesota and is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers.

WE HOLD BEAUTY AND WISDOM

As I searched for a feminine form for my Post this last week entitled
I found this very creative artist Karen Canton.
Her art is as feminine and beautiful as her small poem leading us on a voyage of the various Goddess's in her art works shown on her site HERE.
I have included a few of her beautiful paintings below.
Tell me what you think of her depictions of femininity?

ReplyDelete:)
I can see how she was influenced by other artists yet she has a unique style and color of her own. I love her paintings. I love the subject and well as all the sidenotes. Thanks for this lovely addition to what has now become one of my favorites.
ReplyDeletewho doesn't appreciate vibrant colorations! eye opening!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have no entry for this week, I find her artwork to be openly expressive and vibrant in her rich colors of expressionism. Bright, alive, appealing, soft, relaxed, gentile in appearance. Suggestive senaully in a good way though not perhaps meant that way, it is still there nonetheless. Captured in the solitude of a good book, surrounded by the vestiages of life and nature, embracing what mother nature gives back to all of us, and the embracing of creatures both large and small.
ReplyDeleteA human heart as big as the earth to withstand the agony and pain we face throughout pour lives, and through her work, she shows all things are possible if you in fact take the time to embrace life.
Wonderful posting. Her poem, ever simplistic yet very true.
... and you are right ... As a woman among women, you have become unique.
I wish to thank all my visitors for such rewarding comments. It is a pleasure to share my bounty with all who have dropped in to this Art Colourful Sunday..
