Earth Hour 8pm Saturday 29th of March.

At 8pm on the 29th of March 2008 it is Earth Hour.

Earth Hour is the one hour in time when all of our cities right across the world will turn off their lights for just one hour in the name of Global Warming.

This unified action will show just how much energy can be saved by all of us doing so.

Visit the site for the Earth Hour Here.

Click on the site above and read how you can contribute.

As a fun Saturday evening idea here, I have included two little jokes videos from the girls who Make the Vicar of Dibley so so funny. I love to watch this show when it is on and Dawn French as the Vicar of Dibley has me in stitches with her comical portrayal of the single older woman Vicar of Dibley.

If you are participating in the Earth Hour and wonder what to do a suggestion here get together with some fun friends and family, around a candle or two in a cosy corner or outside around the chimera or the warm coal basket and sit, sip and spill out some funnies together. I am sure there is so much to be had for good quality time spent just idly chatting together, telling stories or having a good Old  Fashioned Joke Festival. What ever you do Enjoy! it.

Enjoy these end of episode jokes too. These girls are great at candle light  humour.

Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.

About Earth Hour

On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

  1. Global warming.....The biggest con since George bush said Saddam Hussien had nuclear and biological weapons.......................
If one studied the history of the worlds growth, one would note, that our planet has warmings and coolings in cycles, every few thousand years, just as we have our summer/winter cycles.
But world troublemaking activistshave suddenly worked out, that as we enter into the warming phase, rthey could create panic among the "sheep".......
So, please, dont fall for this garbage, as its a re-curring season cycle.......
If one studies the circulisation of the Earth planet around the Sun, then one would see, that the actual orbit travelled, alters each year, bringing us closer or further from the sun, hence the global warming or chilling effect that is occuring right now.
Sheesh, it dont take a bloody scientist to work it out................
    go look for yourselves................
My challenge to you......in the words of Christopher Columbus..."Prove me wrong"...........if you can...
Remember, the world was flat theroy was disproved..................

  2. Hi there dear Mister Ifiik here is some news for you from me. I am in agreeance with you for the most part. However I know as we now have so many billions all living on our small in terms of reality, Globe called Earth. The Earth I feel will be under a great deal of pressure if we do not stop and think about our actions towards it. It is a proven fact that the emissions from petrochemicals etc, have caused many problems and it is also being proven that the ice caps are melting and alarmingly so and these are only two of many more areas for concern. This might be the natural cycle of nature over the course of thousands of years and it would not surprise me if it was. One of the biggest hurdles we have to face though right now and for the sake of our children and their prodigies sake as well, is the knowledge that an over populated Earth with all of it's inhabitants, will suffer if we don't place some kind of halt on what we are doing now and find better solutions. I know there are solutions and I also know that many a good idea is bought out by the powers that be all for the sake of the almighty dollar.
Nature is a force never to be reckonned with and no matter how smart man thinks he is, there is always going to be the oneupmanship of unpredictable mother nature. some of my thoughts only and I understand what you have said totally. I wil still turn off the light and light the candle if needed and have some fun!! Why not this is not unusual, we did it heaps of times as kids when power was scarce.

  3. yes, yes, yes, allthis is fine.....but exactly what good is turning off a light for an hour going to achieve????
I may as well put a cork in my butt for an hour, it'll have the same effect...........
coz ALL the bulbs in my house, are the low wattage..low power type, so I consider I'm dpoing my bit for global ecconomy.....

  4. Oh by the way....its a proven fact, with the gasses burned by lighting candles, youre actually doing MOREdamages to the Earth's atmosphere, than burning a light globe............
Betcha didnt know that liddl fact, didcha..............................

  5. I just heard the end of the hour celebrated with a fireworks display. I am cynical enough to ask what if anything was gained by it?

  6. I hear you both Freddy and Mister iffik both loud and clear. Fireworks well thats a bit of a anticlimax. I feel oh well I did not make the rules up and that does sound a bit over the top to me as well. The trouble with anything that we do these days is that it always involves money and even going green costs more" I think the light bulb mentioned by you my dear Mister is a great start and yep following suit here too" We and it seems all of our neighbours here around us did follow suit for more than an hour with lights out. We ate our dinner outside there were seven of us including a child a dog and a cat. The old outside fire barrel was lit on the outdoor patio and we only needed a couple of candles and they were the beeswax ones. It started out mild as in weather but before the hour was up we did get cloud coverage and light rain. The market umbrella was up and everyone was fine chatting, laughing and reminiscing about the outback camp fires and good times they had around them in the past. Yes a few jokes were told too. Marshmallows were toasted and we came in more like two hours later relaxed and just fine. My only grumble LOL was the messy kitchen I encountered when the light was switched on. So if you have not had your light bulb moment do give it a try and just go with the flow after all its only a moment in time really.

  7. Ok Milli I am going to change the subject. As the 29th has now been and gone.

That was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. I wish we could get that over here. I laughed until the tears ran done my face. Much the same way I do when we chat on the phone. John stopped me once and had to know what I was watching. He just did not get it. Must just be a girl thing.

LOL I am literally speaking here.
Anyway youtube will give you more to see and laugh at so go for a look see and a laugh.

  9. Like Rita, I'm going to change the subject for a bit as well...These are ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! I wish they had this over here as well! I was laughing so hard, Bill had to come in to make sure I wasn't having a post-menopausal crying jag. :-) I'm afraid I don't even watch American comedy anymore as it's been ages since I've seen anything worth investing a half hour in.

Yes, the 29th has come and gone. I'm afraid to say I've never heard of the idea. Although we live out in the middle of nowhere, we still get the San Francisco Chronicle daily. Can't live without my newspaper! I am aware of what Mister iflik is referring to, I think possibly he's not taking into consideration the surprisingly rapid rate of the polar melts. A thousand years in the history of man is nothing and I'm sure there were some notations back then about things heating up a bit; however, with geology and various hi-tech equipment, they are able to do models of what the earth went through a thousand years ago - even five thousand or more. The orbit of Earth around the sun has been taken into account in the various studies. All in all, orbits included, the polar ice caps are melting faster than they have at any other time in history. Some of this melting has to do with the obvious orbit cycle and what we're doing certainly can't be helping. Turning your lights out for an hour is also a fun way to make a tiny difference. One step at a time...
