Poetry Wednesday:Reflections on Still Waters.

As I sit and watch from the shore

A small boat atop the still waters

My mind wanders further away this day,

To a distant shore where sons and daughters

Now reside.

Reflections on Still Waters.

Blue, blue, still and tranquil

The lake is calm today

Sky above white fluffy clouds

My little boat held secure

Sitting quietly tied to its moorings

Just a small boat on still waters

Recalling my own moments in reflection

How much I am that small rudderless boat

Sitting on my own vast ocean

At times trying to keep afloat

It was only yesterday my boat rocked to and fro

Where it was heading I did not know

The shore was far and I could not see

The sky was grey with no blue to show

As I tossed and tumbled in the whirlpool of life

Rudderless, reckless never at ease

Up one moment and down the next

Wandering aimless with naught to please

It seemed I chose the storms of life

Rough riding them out usually in fear

My little boat at the mercy of my feelings

Even when the safety of the shore was near

It is not like that today as I sit quiet and still

I have learnt the joy of steering my own boat

Never again in the restless grey sea

Tossing and turning trying to keep afloat

I have learnt that my own still waters run deepest

The far reaches of the sky are a part of me

And distant mountains in a blue, blue sky

Imbibe in my spirit and set me free.

On this day as I sit and watch my little boat

I feel contentment whilst enjoying the Tranquillity

With Love in my heart and understanding

My rudderless boat is in total, peaceful, harmony.

  5. Thank you plato and is the space shuttle going to help you locate that cork or the bottle or would like to sit with me on the shore and like Van Gogh watch the ships coming sailing home? Space ships also if you wish.

  7. I had another image up Rita however it would not show so the image in your mind at the time of writing I am sure fitted beautifully as it was recalled from your past memories.

  9. Ah my apologies Plato I was being funny with you and teasing. However the sitting with me on the shore and contemplating the beauty before us I am sure would over come most stress. Am i correct?

  10. i am reminded of a kabir's poem when u said boat let me share that with you, though kabir wrote in Hindi, i am giving you english version. this is something strange as i go deep into meditation and trance, i only wonder whether i shall get sleep for this tuesday night at india.

    The Boat

    The Guest is inside you, and also inside me;
you know the sprout is hidden inside the seed.
We are all struggling; none of us has gone far.
Let your arrogance go, and look around inside.

The blue sky opens out farther and farther,
the daily sense of failure goes away,
the damage I have done to myself fades,
a million suns come forward with light,
when I sit firmly in that world.

    I hear bells ringing that no one has shaken;
    inside"love" there is more joy than we know of;
    rain pours down, although the sky is clear of clouds;
there are whole rivers of light.
The universe is shot through in all parts by a single sort of love.
How hard it is to feel that joy in all our four bodies!

Those who hope to be reasonable about it fail.
The arrogance of reason has separated us from that love.
With the word "reason" you already feel miles away.

How lucky Kabir is, that surrounded by all this joy
he sings inside his own little boat.
His poems amount to one soul meeting another.
These songs are about forgetting dying and loss.
They rise above both coming in and going out.

    Kabir

  11. Oh and Plato I forgot to thank you for you thoughtful Haiku up front. It is as usual very befitting.

  12. Shankar I can see that both poems are saying similar things. Boats being the metaphor. I thank you for sharing your boat poem with me and I wish you calm blue waters, under fluffy white clouds, sailing through a beautiful blue sky. Now that's what beautiful visions are made of.

  13. Beautiful places are everywhere when friends share them Milli.
That technique though is most useful when cross-fire huricanes
    come knocking on the door..

  14. I love the conclusion and this "It seemed I chose the storms of life/Rough riding them out usually in fear/My little boat at the mercy of my feelings/Even when the safety of the shore was near."

I like that understanding that we choose where we are headed in life by being aware of every moment.

  27. Dear Milli, your PROWess shows! A lovely metaphor for taking control of your own domain, weathering the seas, overcoming storms. Your wording is beautiful, smooth and full of images.

I have learnt that my own still waters run deepest
The far reaches of the sky are a part of me

I feel you've come far, survived and are full speed ahead. Beautiful job.
