Golden Sunset
As the sun set on a perfect day at the waters edge, I looked towards the sea and I could make out a big rectangular shape on the shore line.
My curiosity got the better of me and down I went to investigate.
This is what I found.
In Australia wineries use these big bags as vessels for holding wine and they are often referred to as Wine Goons: a goonie or goon bag is the silver bag from inside a wine cask. Goon is the precious sweet liquid from inside. These larger versions are used by the wine industry for storage purposes.
The one in the photo above was being used as a li lo in the water. When it is filled with air one can lay or sit on it and float around. Or try to take a wave into the shore on it. What a very novel idea, was my thought.
When the day has come to another end the Goon is deflated and that is what was happening to it when I saw it in the distance. As I stood watching I asked if I could take some photos and suggested that it be held up to the setting sun for reflective purposes. The end result is the photo I called Gold. You very clever and patient friends have all been guessing about it and i thank you for your comments. The photo and as it's name implies I guess is appropriate, because to our region wine is a commercial crop and keeps many in their livelihoods.
So there you have it "All that glitters is not Gold"
Shakespeare is the best-known user of the idea. The original Shakespeare editions of The Merchant of Venice, 1596, have the line as 'all that glisters is not gold'. 'Glister' is now usually replaced by the more commonly used 'glitter', which has the same meaning:
However it was a fun exercise trying to figure it out. Wasn't It?

This last photo was taken when the sun had retreated for the day and left us all with a fine afterglow. A bit like a good wine does for many wine lovers.

uh...a bloody goonybag sucked me in,,,,but In was close when I said a bag for cols stuff....lmao....your clue??? completely ignored until right now...the region where you live...the wine growing region.....silly me...lmao
ReplyDeleteYou are a really good sport there Ifiik and I am glad that you can see the funny side. Yes I threw hints out everywhere but I know it was a big ask as even I was surprised to see one this size.I must admit that i do love the image it made for us to enjoy as it reflected the perfect day. Hugs mate and thanks to everyone who tried to answer the question.
ReplyDeleteIs it a 20 litre size one?
ReplyDeleteOh I did not ask the size however as you can see it hides the man who is holding it so I suspect it holds plenty of wine. I will find out what they hold if you like? Did you ever haul wine?
ReplyDeleteyes..... it was a common load,,,,,usually a trailer load at a time, to the distribrution centre in Alice, or Darwin.......One Xmas, it was three trailers to Alice... that place downs more booze than anywhere else on Oz....lol
ReplyDeleteOhhhh! I would never have guessed it anyway .. all this being new to me. Glad I found something new in your page. It was fun trying to guess!

How fun to float on the waves on a wineskin! Great! I never in a million years would have guessed because it's the first time I've ever heard of a goonybag. Goony bird, but never goony bag. Very Clever, & it's golden, for sure!
ReplyDeleteJoy that's what they think too! that it is fun floating around on one of these leisurely in a calm sea. LOL@ Gooni bird.
ReplyDeleteDani I actually thought that you would guess this. The clue about This region was a throw away however I forgot that you guys in the rest of the world probably do not use these bags for storage. Is there a market?
