Preserving the Native Scrublands.

An Ode to A Feral Pig in The Scrub.

There was movement in the scrub they say

It seems the old ladies pet pig, had run away

Some nature lovers walking through

Found trodden foliage and furrows too!

A panicked cry went out to all so fast

Feral pig digging up scrub.. no way,

This destruction cannot last

The word was spread out loud and clear

Find that grunting feral pig,

As it surely is hiding near

Then remove it from our heritage native scrub

It is now that The Feral Pig Story

Becomes conversation at the local club.

Having a good old decent yarn

With his mates all ears, whilst eating food

Pedro mentions the pigs been sighted

And the plan is looking good

It seems that old, scrub dwelling pig

Would wonder out at night

Making furrows with its big brown snout

On Pedro's farm in the bright moonlight

There was a hush as the farmer confirmed

To his mates, what was next to unfold

An end was in sight that very same night

No reprieve for this hunted piggy, oh so bold

The farmer knew that our rogue porcus

Scavaging out by the stables would be

Snorting and digging and leaving a mess

When daylight comes on view for all to see

Then it happened on that fateful night

Down at the stables a shot was heard

It took no time at all it seems

As all and sundry heard the word

A professional shooter had been called

Armed and accurate within close proximity

He had shot that errant feral pig

With out a doubt right into piggy eternity

The feral porcus lay shot in the neck

Brought down and now very deceased

The experts said that it was a feral blessing

As the errant pig was sick and much diseased.

Our precious scrub is free again to grow and bloom

With one less pest and vermin

Native scrub for nature lovers and people like me

So lucky to admire and thoroughly enjoy

Whilst out walking.

Footnote.

This is a true story written as a verse with facts as I know them to be. I never condone inhumane actions of any type. The feral animals and non-native flora and fauna and noxious weeds are a source of concern at all times in any natural and environmentally sensitive area. The state departments looking after these native areas do all possible to keep them as pristine and unspoilt as they can manage. However there is always in our environments situations like the feral pig and I must implore here that he was treated humanely as he sadly was not in good health or temperament after becoming wild.
