As an aside here I did take a sail in this tall ship out from Pt Adelaide, and what a sail it was. We started out in the early evening and sailed down the Port River under sail and in beautiful conditions down to the breakwaters and out to the sea. Once we went through into the sea it was another matter altogether as we rocked and rolled and held on for dear life on the top deck of the ship, sea spray and all.
At one stage I went down to the galley to get my food and literally slid from the bottom of the stairs to the table, thankfully on my feet and still standing I was caught by the chef in full flight. I asked if this was par for the course and was assured that it happens at times LOL.
Quite Hilarius in hindsight, but not at the time. Oh! and one more thing I did not climb to the top of the mast in that smooth part of the journey in the river however my friends did and had the birds eye view to beat them all. Maybe next time for me, as a skirt was not exactly the best attire for such a climb.
For anyone who wishes to read a more in depth transcript of this area, I have found an amazing Thesis by Aiden Ash from:
The Flinders University Archaeology Department.
I think I have struck gold here as the report explains in detail and with photos the history of this fascinating and popular beach and it's surrounding area.
Take a leisurely and informative look see when you have time. You will need to be able to open a PDF file to read this unique report.
As you can already ascertain, I am very much a history buff at heart and I do hope that you too will enjoy My Journey and Unique Walking Trail.
For all the none readers you can still see some great photos some taken by me and others in the thesis.
