The call came tonight, "Go down to the esplanade and look out to the horizon. Once you see the brilliance of the planet Venus then cast your eyes left and into a large Grey cloud. Through the centre you will see THE COMET".
This was a call from my daughter in law to be. She was using her mobile phone to inform us that the view tonight of the comet was quite good, from where she stood watching from the sea shore to the sky in the west. We are fortunate to be on the coast facing west and there are not too many street lights to deter the superb view of the starry nights that set a lovely back drop over the sea.
So with this in mind, down to the point we went with our binoculars in hand. To our delight there was not only the most brilliant Venus shining in all of it's glory for us to see very close to the horizon, but also the comet, with its huge tail trailing behind. It appeared from under the cloud cover, on it's journey in a vertical direction down to the horizon.
All too soon it disappeared, just as the sun does each night at sunset. It is times like this, when the sea is gentle and you see the light glow of the different hues of grey with a slight hint of orange in the background on a clear night over the sea, that you just can't help thinking to yourself, Ain't Nature Grand?
I will keep you posted on the next vision we have down here of this Comet as it is said that it can be observed at sunset and sunrise.
