Southern Hemisphere Our Frst Day of Summer

Today Marks the 1st Day of Summer here in Australia.

The weather at the moment has gone from warm and pleasant to windy and grey as a change sweeps through. If rain comes it will be a blessing to our dry gardens. For many on the land maybe this is not so.

Weather here has definitely changed over the years from my memories as a child and young adult. Summer, autumn, winter and spring were all distinct seasons and we often referred to our climate as being similar to that of the Mediterranean region of Europe.

Although it is not unusual to get wind at this time of the year the dryness is definitely having an impact.

Fires were being fought in many places right up until today in our state and other states are still having out breaks. I read that we are having the thousand year drought here right now. Did you ever wonder how the information from a thousand years ago about weather and rainfall can be gleaned? I know I am curious and if you do have an answer I would love to know.

The state government is declaring more drastic measures for water conservation as from this coming Monday. Sad to say but I always feel we shut the gate here after the horses have bolted. We live in the driest state in the driest continent and many water saving, water purifying or even alternative water sources could have been successfully serving our country and especially our state before now.

To look at local gardens you would usually see the brown off that occurs naturally at this time of year and the brown vista that prevails across the hills is a natural phenomenon every summer. We do understand and this is all a part of our environment.

What strikes me now is the effect that weather plays on our being. How many civilisations have succumbed to nature and the elements?

Are we now seeing the effects of Global Warming or does nature move out of sync sometimes of its own accord?

I know many of you are also experiencing weather that is ‘different’.

Or where you are, do things run pretty much like clockwork with  only the occasional storm, heatwave or monsoon being a little different from the norm?

Something that I do think about is the effect that weather and nature does have on the global scene. I wonder do we all realise that nature is a mighty force to deal with and in affect we are all at Her Mercy.

So my thoughts are thus. I think of our globe as a child running a high fever. The fever will break and can be controlled with appropriate measures being put into place now.

Love and kindness are important to the child at all times however when in sickness there is need for extra comfort and support. Let’s give our sick child “Earth and its People” all the love and kindness that we can muster. There will be future generations who will be very thankful for our considerations at this time. Remember Actions always speak louder than words.
