Scams! Tidings Of Our Times?

I had a lovely friend in my neighbourhood who as a single lady in her middle years was  finding life a financial struggle. We would gather for a cup of coffee and I would help her when ever I could with her p.c.

My friend was originally from France and had kept that wonderful deep accent which I would try to emulate, in times of fun. Well the bottom line of my story is thus. At coffee one day she remarked that her financial woes would soon be eliminated. I was totally absorbed by this comment and asked how that would be so, as I knew full well of her financial woes.

The answer came out very sheepishly and very hushed as she informed me of an email she had received explaining to her about a wealth, a huge fortune awaiting her as an inheritance. I knew of the Nigerian Scammers, so with a bit more prodding she revealed to me about how a month or so before, she had received an email and now after much back and forth through emails, she was about to get her inheritance and all of her worries would subside.

Yes she had been playing their game beautifully in all of its deceit. Offcourse there was just one thing more. The most important part of this rotten scam. This struggling woman would need to find money for them ,before she could claim her so called "inheritance".

.I am afraid I became the bearer of sad tidings that day, as I typed the words from her email into my Google search. Yes there it was for us both to see Nigerian Scam. She was heart broken and actually still believed that it was all so true. I had made a mistake she told me because these people knew so much about her, and everything seemed to fit. Maybe her case was an exception?

Unfortunately, this was not to be a wonderful gift from out of the blue wonder and actually she had been talking to these people for a good month and things were about to proceed quickly as she was TO PAY THEM very soon for the lawyer who held all the information about the so called cash that was to be sent to her. Or even better for them, she was to collect it in cash from them, on their own turf.

God forbid if that had actually happened. You see they have a theory that if they give you something then you must pay first and then they can just go away to their little worm holes with the bootie in store and get fatter. As you, well you’re just left as a victim, in no man’s land.

My friend did recover, a little wiser but sadly she has now shifted away. She did report this scam and gave all details that she could. I do not know the outcome.

Today I have been also been chosen to collect a vast amount of money and I wish to share it with you all. Of course being in the spirit of Christmas I must send notification before the 25th of December so as to have all of my Christmases come at once. So to speak. I have pasted from my email account the Glad Tidings of the Season, and am happy to share all of this knowledge with you. So Merry Christmas to the happy scammers. I do hope your sad and sorry deeds return to you in full force.

  1. I remember this Nigerian scam all to well. A while back, I bought my mom a computer for Christmas. Had I taken into consideration her obvious addiction to those wonderful 'shopping shows' and 'infomercials' I would have never done it! Why, just yesterday I spoke with her, and she mentioned being caught up in one of those internet scams. She didn't make reference to the supposed company, but she did imply that she was getting her money back--all $195.00! It was one of the 'Work From Home" scams. Oh bother, what would Pooh say? lol Hopefully, this is a lesson learned for her.

  2. I hope so Crystal and I have just noticed the text is a bit scrambled here in places that is because I imported these over from Yahoo. i think it yahoo's secret weapon to mess up the system of bringing them away from 360. I hope mum has learnt her lessons...

  5. Would you believe my mother phoned me this very day to tell me of an email she received. I began rambling on about how she needs to stay away from these emails and that they're only scams. I mentioned the Nigerian scam and her quick response was, "That's what this is!" I said "Mom, I rest my case." I thought she would have learned her lesson with the last $195 she threw away! lol
