The picture above was sent to me recently. Please open it up for a more detailed look.
It was said to be one of the best photos for 2005 and you be the judge for yourself?
I love it personally and whilst flying in aircraft I always try for a window seat.
As I fly above the water or the land I look for the little roads or even cars, buildings or ships in the ocean and it feels like I am some kind of giant eyeing the earth from above. I can recall many times when for me it was like being over fairy land and one particular flight that took us over Sydney at night, was just like looking at fairy land all lit up and begging us to come down for a closer view. We were actually heading for Melbourne so that was not to be possible at that time.
Another momentous flight was going from Adelaide to Sydney as the sun came up. We were flying into the sunrise and it was a truly spectacular sight.
It had been a long day of flying and from Sydney it was on to Brisbane and then the Flight to the top of Queensland they call Far North Queensland on to Cairns. A must do visit for any one travelling down to Australia.
I was very fortunate to have had all window seats on the whole journey so I kept watch over the water as we headed north. Glimpses of land, bridges, inlets, white sandy beaches and then to my amazement I could see the larger ships and sailing ships below in the sea.
One thing that really struck me was the Great Barrier Reef from above. It looked to me like small opal gems in the sea. All these small islands dotted in the vastness of the blue sea. I could clearly see the different contrasts. From the sea to the reef and then to the land in the middle. Quite a contrast the view becomes, as you transverse across the wide blue yonder.
Probably the most spectacular flight was from Christchurch to Queenstown in New Zealand where we flew over the Southern Alps.
Snow capped mountains sitting in a mass of foamy looking clouds. From above it seemed like we were over some amazing land structure below, where the foaming sea was enfolding these mighty stone like structures that peeked high into the heavens.
Beyond, as the cloud cleared small villages appeared. These sitting precariously on the mountain side in the midst of white snow. Until this day a breath taking picture emerges in my mind from the memory of this view.
I saw what the Eagle or Hawk could see as I looked in awe at the beauty of the scenes below. The bird of the sky. Man's personal bird, the mighty Aeroplane had been my introduction to this remarkable changing view.
