Images And Words Week 162 ~ Strange

Thanks Amy for this unusual theme.

Strange.

Parody about Life.

I decided to introduce a little humour into my post this week.

I took this photo at a venue where the decorations are often quite strange and some even slightly bizarre. This poor fellow was a little model in an old fashioned carnival machine. Obviously meant as a spoof on life, I cropped out the surrounding machine and came up with this image and accompanying quote.
I hope it gives you a bit of a laugh, in a strange kind of way lol.

I have included an Strange little song from many years ago. Maybe you too will remember... The Doors..When You're strange?
People Are Strange

  10. Interesting subject. (!)
My first impression was that here was a fellow who's either had too much to drink (the spilled bottle on the floor), or not enough sleep (the wide open eyes), but that in either case he wasn't feeling quite himself (the octopus-like lower appendage). Now I think he was trying to drink himself to sleep, without success, after perhaps many a sleepless night. ( I've been there.) Whatever the case, it's a very absorbing capture. It appears to be a miniature, but I'm not familiar with what an old fashioned "carnival" machine consisted of, or it's overall appearance. I assume it spun around when you turned a crank and there were other little rooms that flashed by, each containing another miniature like this little fella. But were they variations of the same scene, with slight shifts in position to give the observer the illusion of movement or was each compartment unique?
As for 'People Are Strange' I bought the album when it came out and still have it. Pretty sure it was the 2nd Doors album, of their two good ones before Morrison's drinking made him resemble the little guy in the picture (at least to himself)?

  11. I have really enjoyed your interpretation of this unique little miniature..yes you are correct it is a miniature...did you also notice the skeleton in the closet?
Amazing that you also made that correlation between the little guy and Morrison. I think you may be on to something in that observation.
I will go through my photos and see if I can find a photo of this 'machine'.
Thanks so much for your visit and interesting comment.

  13. lol, I love it...skeleton's in the closet, monsters under the bed, the superstition of the black cat, the eerie tree outside the window most likely knocking against the glass and keeping the poor guy awake all night...some of our basic fears represented here. I didn't get the booze and cigarettes, but I suppose they are,as mrwhatzit said, means of relaxation.

A very strange and unusual post, and one that really makes you think. ' Love the quote and I've always loved that song.

  14. Clever girl Debby, I think that you have looked deeply into what this miniature represents.
I guess we won't ever know what it all represents because it is a very old machine from another time and place.

  15. LOL Dave it is Satirical and satire is an art form that holds up our vices, foibles and short comings for ridicule.
As spooky as it seems it is a part of human nature and satire basically uses wit as a weapon to prick our social consciences.
