Picture Perfect:Freedom

We came across this little Wallaby in the wilderness of Freycinet National Park in Tasmania.

I feel he represents true Freedom as he forages freely amongst the most stunning Natural Area that I have ever seen.

Taken with my trusty Ricoh RDC 6000 camera. No editing this is as uploaded.

  1. LOL he is a Wallaby and they are smaller than a Kangaroo. That's his grown size and I call him a he only because I did not get to check for the details. They are a wild marsupial in Australia.

  2. You see Wallaby's with some frequency I would imagine. This guy doesn't seem freaked out about you. Looks like you're on a path, is it a human path or were you out traipsing about and found an animal path?

    Very nice picture, of course!

  4. Hi Cheri this is wilderness country no one lives there only a few rangers. People get a permit to go there and then park and walk the path. These little fellas are usually timid however when I spotted him behind the undergrowth.. It was a careful and quiet moment to get the shot before he hopped away. We are in a National Park there so no domestic animals allowed in. The animals only have to fear their natural predators. There is a few trails and one in particular takes you to an isolated beach, the views from the top of the ranges is spectacular and I have one photo to share another time. No you don't se them frequently except at night in the wild when they sit on the sides of the road. very scary driving then actually because of the dangers of them running out onto the road.

  9. I did a little zoom however he really was only a few feet away. As you can see there are some bushes between us and he was sitting quietly I think having heard us nearby. I was lucky to have noticed him. Yes I truly do not know if its him or her. Of course the tame ones in zoos will let you feed them if it is allowed, the wild ones are much more shy.

  16. Interesting take on the theme.

He definitely has a sense of being in charge. Great photo, well composed and nice feeling to it. The fact that you didn't edit the photo in any way makes it even more impressive.

Here is my take on the theme.

  18. Very nice choice for this week's theme. I've always wanted very much to do the same, go and forage and live off the land somewhere. Maybe I should have been a wallaby. :)
